SAVECats

The SAVECats ( Spay/Neuter And Vaccinate Every Cat) program was launched in 2018 by Rude Ranch Animal Rescue, Spay Spa & Neuter Nook, and it coalition partners SPCA of Anne Arundel County, Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control, Sunshine’s Friends Cat and Dog Rescue, and Cats R Us. The program aims to significantly, humanely, and permanently reduce the community cat population in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and to improve quality of life for community cats. The SAVECats program offers a free spay/neuter package to Anne Arundel County residents and has received support from Alley Cat Allies, Petsmart Charities, and the Snyder Foundation for Animals, and receives continued support from the  Maryland Department of Agriculture Spay and Neuter Grants Program.

The Call to Save All Cats

The Anne Arundel County Community Cat Bill (96-17), passed in 2018, allows countywide trap-neuter-return (TNR) and affords legal protection to community cats surrendered to Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control (AACACC). Community cats that are ear tipped (that is, the tip of their left ear is humanely removed to indicate that they have been spayed or neutered) are no longer accepted by AACACC and can no longer be euthanized. Without an ear tip, community cats do not have the protection of 96-17. If you want to help save all cats, please help us promote TNR and eartipping through SAVECats.

The SAVECats program assists communities and caregivers with TNR best practices.
